Staircase Balustrade Installers in Birmingham

Birmingham Glass Balustrades are staircase glass balustrade installers in Birmingham and the West Midlands. We install frameless and framed glass balustrade systems on domestic staircases across the city.
Projects include replacing dated timber spindles, completing post-loft-conversion staircases, and installing new glass systems in open-plan renovations. The staircase is the centrepiece of a renovated Birmingham family home.

Why Birmingham’s Staircase Market Is Different
Staircase glass balustrades in Birmingham are driven by architecture and renovation investment. Three project types account for the majority of our work.
Post-Loft-Conversion Completion
Birmingham’s loft conversion market is one of the most active in the Midlands. Every loft conversion that adds a floor level creates a new staircase needing guarding before Building Control sign-off.
Spindle-to-Glass Retrofit
Edwardian and Victorian semis across Harborne, Moseley, and Edgbaston have original timber spindles. Replacing them with glass panels transforms the staircase without rebuilding it.
Feature Staircase Installations
Edgbaston’s larger detached properties produce briefs where the staircase is a full interior design commission. Frameless glass with a structural glass top rail or curved stainless handrail.

Staircase Systems We Install

Frameless Glass Balustrades
No vertical posts between glass panels. The structural load is carried at the base via continuous channel or spigot clamps. Glass specification: 21.5mm toughened laminated as standard for channel-fixed systems.
Semi-Frameless with Posts
Vertical stainless steel posts at intervals with glass infill and continuous top handrail. A lower-cost option that suits family homes in Harborne and Moseley where a continuous hand grip is preferred.
Glass Infill Retrofit
Where existing newel posts and handrail are structurally sound, we replace only the spindles with glass. This is our most common brief in Harborne and Moseley.
Loft Conversion Staircases
We work alongside loft conversion contractors to ensure glass systems are ready for Building Control inspection. Glass preserves ceiling height perception better than solid balustrades.

Our Staircase Installation Process
1. Survey and Assessment
We visit and take laser measurements of every tread, riser, and landing. We check the existing structure and note unusual features.
2. Design and Compliance
We design the balustrade to meet Building Regulations Part K and BS 6180. We check child-safe gap requirements and confirm handrail height.
3. Glass Manufacture
Panels are cut to exact angles and dimensions. All edges polished. Panels are thermally toughened after all machining. From confirmed order to staircase installation is typically two to three weeks — glass is cut to your exact stair angles.
4. Professional Installation
We protect flooring and walls. We phase installation so the staircase remains usable where possible. Fixings, glass, handrail, and clean-up completed.
5. Building Control
For projects requiring inspection, we coordinate the final sign-off with Birmingham City Council Building Control.
