Glass Balustrade Panels in Birmingham

Birmingham Glass Balustrades supplies and installs glass balustrade panels for staircases, landings, balconies, and outdoor guarding across Birmingham and the West Midlands.
Glass panels are the infill element of a balustrade. They replace timber spindles, metal bars, or solid panels with a clean surface. As pure infill within an existing frame, or as the structural element itself in a frameless system.

Types of Glass Panel Installation
Stair Infill Panels
The most common domestic application in Birmingham. An existing staircase has sound timber newel posts and handrail, but the spindles are dated. Glass panels fill each bay precisely.
This is the primary renovation trigger in Harborne, Edgbaston, and Moseley period properties. See our staircase balustrade installers page for full system options.
Landing Panels
Landing balustrade panels are rectangular. Used in stair infill retrofits, new balustrade systems, and for mezzanine and gallery guarding in open-plan properties. Building Regulations require 1,100mm guarding height.
Juliet Balcony Replacement Panels
Glass Juliet balcony systems occasionally need panel replacement after impact damage or upgrade. We supply replacement panels cut to match existing frame dimensions. See our Juliet balcony installation page for full detail.
Outdoor and Deck Panels
Outdoor panels use the same glass specification but with weatherproof stainless steel frames. See our decking balustrades page for full detail on fixing methods.

Glass Specifications Explained
Understanding which glass to specify matters for safety and for Building Regulations compliance.

10mm Toughened Monolithic
The standard for framed infill panels on domestic staircases and landings. Approximately four times stronger than ordinary float glass. Shatters into small blunt fragments. Complies with BS EN 12150.
12mm Toughened Monolithic
Specified where larger panel sizes require greater rigidity, or in higher-traffic and commercial settings. Used in Jewellery Quarter apartment conversions.
13.5mm Toughened Laminated
Used where glass must retain structural integrity after breakage. If one pane cracks, the interlayer holds both in position. Specified for frameless systems and balcony positions.
21.5mm Toughened Laminated
The specification for frameless channel-fixed systems where the glass carries the full structural barrier load. Required by BS 6180 for structural barrier glazing.
We always specify the correct glass at survey. The right glass for a simple stair infill is different from the right glass for a structural frameless balustrade.

How We Measure and Manufacture
1. Survey and Measure
We visit the site and take laser measurements of every bay. For stair flights, we record the rake angle and height at each end of each panel.
2. Glass Cut to Order
Panels are cut to our specifications and thermally toughened. All edge work including polishing and drilling is done before toughening.
3. Quality Control
Every panel is inspected for dimensional accuracy, edge finish, and glass clarity before dispatch.
4. Professional Installation
Panels are delivered to site and fitted in sequence. The team that measured the job fits it.
5. Handover
We walk through the finished installation and advise on cleaning and maintenance.
