Glass Balustrade Clamps in Birmingham

Birmingham Glass Balustrades designs and installs spigot-mounted glass balustrade systems across Birmingham and the West Midlands. Glass balustrade clamps, commonly called spigots, are the point-fix hardware that anchors glass panels to a deck, floor, or stringer.
No continuous channel is needed. Each panel is secured at its base by two or more spigot clamps. We use certified products from established European manufacturers with documented load test data.

Types of Glass Balustrade Clamps
Surface-Mount Spigots
Surface-mount spigots bolt directly onto the top face of a deck, terrace, or floor. The spigot body sits proud of the surface. This is the simplest installation approach with no core drilling required.
Surface-mount spigots are the most common choice for composite and timber decking in Sutton Coldfield, Solihull, and Four Oaks.
Fascia-Mount Spigots
Fascia-mount spigots fix to the vertical face of a deck fascia rather than the top surface. The glass panel overhangs the deck edge, creating a cleaner sightline from the decking surface.
Core-Drilled Spigots
Core-drilled spigots are set into the floor or deck surface. Only the top of the clamp is visible. From above, the glass appears to rise directly from the floor. Popular on Edgbaston and Sutton Coldfield properties with porcelain or natural stone terraces.
Post-Mounted Clamp Systems
Vertical posts fixed at intervals with glass panels clamped to the post faces using adjustable clamp bodies. This suits longer runs and projects where a handrail is required between posts.

Stainless Steel Grades for Outdoor Clamps

Grade 304 Stainless Steel
The standard grade for domestic hardware. Contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel. Performs well in dry indoor environments. Suitable for all internal spigot and post systems.
Grade 316 Stainless Steel
Contains 16% chromium, 10% nickel, and 2% molybdenum. The molybdenum provides significantly improved resistance to pitting corrosion from atmospheric moisture. This is the correct grade for all exposed outdoor Birmingham installations.
Why Grade Matters in Birmingham
Birmingham is an urban and industrial environment. Grade 304 in exposed outdoor positions can show surface corrosion over time. We specify grade 316 for all outdoor applications as standard.

Load Ratings and Glass Specification
Glass balustrade clamps must be load-rated for their application. The relevant standard is BS 6180.

Structural Requirements
Residential applications require a horizontal point load of 0.74kN at any point on the glass panel. Our spigot products carry certified load test data from their manufacturers.
Standard Glass Specifications
Panel height up to 900mm: 15mm toughened monolithic glass. Panel height 900mm to 1,100mm: 17.5mm toughened laminated. Above 1,100mm: 21.5mm toughened laminated.
Spacing and Glass Relationship
Wider spigot spacing requires a stiffer glass panel. Reducing spacing allows a lighter glass specification. We optimise this trade-off at design stage.
